EnterpriseLink part of Mainframe Migration Toolkit
EnterpriseLink is now available to Micro Focus partners that assist customers in mainframe migrations.
Performance studies using EnterpriseLink have shown Micro Focus Enterprise Server
with the Mainframe Transaction Option (ES/MTO) to have the performance of high-end mainframes
when running online transaction processing workloads. As high as the
mainframe-equivalent 1347 MIPS have been
demonstrated on multi-processor Windows systems, for example.
You can now migrate your CICS COBOL applications from your mainframe onto Windows, Unix or
Linux platforms using ES/MTO. EnterpriseLink can web enable these applications as easiliy
as it does for apps running on the mainframe. Now, the power of the entire EnterpriseLink
Test Harness is available to partners to perform the following tests on their mainframe
- Functional Testing -- ensure that your customer's migrated applicatication is "bug for bug" compatible
with that running on the mainframe
- Uptime Testing -- ensure that your new mainframe migration platform adheres to your
customer's Service Level Agreement as far as RAS.
- Stress Testing -- run your migrated mainframe application in an heavy-loaded
and overloaded environment
- Performance Testing -- Run a typical transaction workload against the migrated
application and generate response time graphs, transaction details, etc.

Micro Focus Partnership Program
Partners and strategic alliances play a key role in the Micro Focus/EnterpriseLink delivery of
collaborative applications that lead to successful projects and create value for our customers.
Next to our customers, partnerships are the most valuable relationships we build. To complement
our EnterpriseLink business application resource suite, we have partnered with technology and
hardware platform manufacturers, operating system vendors, software and database developers,
consulting and system integrators and service organizations. We have introduced many programs
that help our partners become successful, automate and accelerate the overall implementation
process, and open new markets. Our partnerships and alliances encompass more than 300 business
partner organizations. To further extend our customers' options, we offer a variety of alliance
partner programs that deliver tremendous value. The Micro Focus/EnterpriseLink partner program
is focused on identifying the right partner organization. Our partner program is about making
the right long-term relationship decision, because our business partners have a direct impact
on our customers' future success. The result is a true covenant between Micro Focus/EnterpriseLink,
our customers and our partners.
Micro Focus adheres to five primary objectives in our partner programs:
- Drive incremental Micro Focus/EnterpriseLink business and software sales through partner
relationships with their client base.
- Leverage the Micro Focus/EnterpriseLink partners' influence in the marketplace by
identifying joint business solutions and opportunities.
- Increase win ratio and decrease sales cycle through partner involvement.
- Offer a comprehensive and consolidated Micro Focus partnering strategy worldwide.
- Establish Micro Focus as the industry "partner of choice."
We achieve these objectives by integrating strategic sales initiatives and joint marketing
support into the partner community, including partners in development, vertical and marketing
initiatives and offering a consolidated partner/client services message for solution delivery.
Ultimately we strive to increase Micro Focus and our partners' market share by leveraging our
relationship.
The Micro Focus/EnterpriseLink direct client services organization works in conjunction
with our partners during both the pre-sales cycle and the implementation cycle.
The EnterpriseLink group has specific personnel dedicated to assuring a smooth transition
during the pre-sales to implementation process.
Micro focus/EnterpriseLink seeks to partner with best-in class solution providers
and consulting organizations. Micro Focus does not offer exclusivity to our partners.
In accordance with our partnering philosophies, Micro Focus/EnterpriseLink partnerships
are offered only to a limited number of organizations. As a result there is little or
no redundancy in our partner territories.
The Micro focus/EnterpriseLink channel strategy uses a dedicated channel management team to
work closely with our partners to develop, qualify and close EnterpriseLink development
opportunities. Each EnterpriseLink partner is required to forecast potential EnterpriseLink
opportunities through the Micro Focus channel partner division, and controlling and
maintaining ownership for the partner. It is possible for any potential customer organization
to contact the Micro Focus sales organization directly for information. It is the responsibility
of the partner to develop the customer relationship on the local level and retaining ownership of
the sales opportunity.
Partnership Types
There are several opportunities to partner with Micro Focus involving EnterpriseLink sales
marketing and integration with your technology.
- Technology Partnership - You have technology to offer Micro Focus to extend
the functionality of the premier legacy integration and deployment tool, EnterpriseLink.
For example,
Novarra, Inc.
Wireless Web product extends the EnterpriseLink deployment reach to over 200 wireless devices.
- System Integrator Partnership - You have a key consulting business and know your
customers. You may have developed CICS/COBOL applications for those customers and need now
to bridge them to the Internet. Or, you're charged with extending those applications to
down-stream XML applications or to Web Services. Whether you have access to the original
source code or not, EnterpriseLink can be combined with your
offerings to rapidly achieve those goals.
- Value Added Reseller Partner - You are looking for "legacy connector" technology allowing
your application to retrieve data from third-party or custom applications your customers have running
on their System/390 or AS/400 system. EnterpriseLink Integration Server can componentize
your CICS/COBOL applications as Java EJBs or JSPs or the SmartCOM component can
objectize through Microsoft COM interfaces (e.g., ASPs).

Micro Focus partners.
Testing Suite
The EnterpriseLink Testing Suite can be used to perform a variety of tests (regression and performance)
on Micro Focus Enterprise Server with Mainframe Transaction Option (ES/MTO) applications. ES/MTO is used
to migrate CICS COBOL applications off the mainframe onto Windows, Unix and/or Linux platforms. You can
use EnterpriseLink to verify the function of those applications is maintained once they are moved
to the ES/MTO environment.
Benchmarking Suite
The EnterpriseLink Benchmarking Suite can be used to measure the expected performance of
any EnterpriseLink project in a production environment. It can be used to predict response
times as seen by end-users and used to gauge the number of Integration Servers (coupled together with the
EnterpriseLink Cluster Server to provide a single-system image) required to meet the
expected workload.
The W2H-A Benchmark serves to quantify Web-to-Host products' performance in a Windows NT,
Windows 2000 or Sun Solaris environment. W2H-A is a known set of input parameters to the
EnterpriseLink Benchmarking Package that will generate consistent results based on the inputs
for a specific platform. The results of W2H-A on a representative platform are included
in the package. The W2H-B benchmarks advanced EnterpriseLink Security Mapper functionality.
Benchmarking is a technique used to quantify performance of known access patterns.
It is used as a means to predict future performance. Making exacting predictions based
on past performance, however, is a risky venture since there are innumerable differences
between operating a large software system in the laboratory and in practice. In other words,
benchmark results do not indicate future real-world system performance.
Partners can download the Benchmarking documentation and the suite of tools including a browser
and host simulators.
LoaderLite
The EnterpriseLink Loader is the first step the constructing an EnterpriseLink project. Normally,
it requires the entire EnterpriseLink Integration Server to be installed. Using LoaderLite,
partners can capture an application without installing the product. The result can be brought
back to the partner's offices where project development can commence. Later, the VAR or SI
can travel to the customer to demonstrate the application against his system. Off-site development
brings value add to partners, consulting service organizations, or off-site end-users.
EnterpriseLink Live!
The EnterpriseLink Information Site contains a complete EnterpriseLink demonstration site. The demo site is under
additional security and requires a Demo Code for prospects to enter. A description
of the process and the ability to generate codes is found at the link to the left.
Conference Facility
A new form of demonstrating EnterpriseLink now exists to deal directly with the customer's
mainframe. A presentation and operation of this is under the
Conference Facility link to the left.
Licensing
License keys protect EnterpriseLink components. Some global partners have access
to the license key generator to create pilot-project and permanent license keys. All license
keys are keyed off the IP address of machined where the EnterpriseLink License Server
is installed. You need this IP address (not machine or domain name) to generate a
license key.
